Description

Lower Shannon Salmon Fishery – Permit Rules

Salmon fishing is permitted in the part of the River Shannon from the downstream face of the bridge in O’Briensbridge to Thomond Bridge in Limerick City, excluding the Castleconnell Fishery (a separate permit is required to fish the Castleconnell Fishery)

  • Angling shall be with single rod and line only. • Use of worm or prawn/shrimp as bait is prohibited at all times
  • Angling allowed only during daylight hours.  • Angling from boats is prohibited
  • No electronic aids are permitted. • Possession or use of a gaff is prohibited
  • Angling is not permitted within 200 metres of Parteen Weir or any ESB dam
  • Angling prohibited on the Headrace and Tailrace of Ardnacrusha Generating Station. • The end of the Tailrace for Ardnacrusha Generating Station is marked by 2 stakes – angling is prohibited upstream of this point and for a distance of 20 metres downstream of this point.
  • This permit is issued subject to a full and proper return of the numbers of all fish caught and released to Inland Fisheries Ireland
  • This Permit will be revoked immediately from any angler found in possession of a salmon
